Black Men and the "Exotic Looking" Other

Posted by Mason Jamal Thursday, January 14, 2010

I recently saw the new cover of Ebony magazine featuring Djimon Hounsou with his new wife Kimora Lee. What's up with black men flocking to these exotic looking women? Are black women not good enough any more?

  2. If I am not mistaken, Mr. Hounsou is a naturalized citizen, and Ms. Lee is half black.

I don't know if their union is indiciative of normal race mixing - besides that, this is not only Mrs. Hounsou's second husband, it is her second BLACK husband. She obviouslly has great affection for black men... RICH Black men!

My life has seen me in relationships with women of various ethnic origin, such as: Black-American, Black-African, Turkish, Asian, European, White-American, Samoan, South-American and Mexican.

    I like women.

Having said all that, I can say without doubt that my most significant relationships have been with Black-American women - I married one. If I ever marry again, I have no idea what she will be, but it nice to be in America right now because happiness can come in any package.

  3. How about this as a size. As many single black men date outside their race, there are so many black women that marry outside of their race. There are so many so men that will dabble and sink outside the race, but you have to say that since the "Something New" phenomenon and the Essence editor saying it is cool, black women dunk and drink the inter-racial marriage. Black men are cool with it because we still love the Black women.

FYI: The first inter-racial marriage was in Virginia between a Black woman and a White man.

  4. I think this conversation will never end. Where I myself prefer black men, I would have no issue with interracial dating. I honestly think what makes the black women mad is the fact that men of other races aren't dating us in the same numbers that black men date women of other race. Therefore, we feel like we are alienated and can ONLY date/marry black men.

I can honestly say that I hang amongst many different races, but I have never been able to get a date with a man of another race. I still an open to the idea nonetheless. Maybe if the playing field was a bit more even, many black women would feel differently.

  6. Took the words out of my mouth.

I've told myself that outdated black woman issues with black men would get a minimal amount of my time this year, so I'll simply give you a Major Co-Sign to your perfectly expressed views.

  8. @ Mark L...you pretty much embody this blog from start to end. thanks for the candor and honesty.

@ Smoking Ace...you are spot on w/ the thing about Essence. damn, like every other issue they're spotlighting black women dating and marrying outside the race. it's cool with me. just a need them to ease up on the brothers - not Essence so much but the remaining handful of angry readers they have. I think most black women have come around though.

@ Kiandra...so you offer balance to the story. it's interesting - the thought that if the interracial playing field was even maybe black women have less of an issue with black men.

@ NightFall...my man, you are hard to impress based on your past comments. glad you feel I hit the mark on this one. thanks for continuing to drop by too. much appreciated.
