I'm new to this blog, but Mason seems to spend a lot of time on Metrosexuals, which is fine by me, for sure. Nice to know that the 2 Afro-American men I have spent most of my life with, though gay, are as masculine as any out there - and they never wore their pants round their knees - their butts were out there for all to see and much admired!!! and not in the tightest of jeans, either. I mentioned 2 men - the first passed away 6 years ago. My present light of my life is luckily with me now...

I feel your pain both as a single father once upon a time and as a blogger. But men, in droves, tend to shy away from these types of subjects. Women are more open to the dialogue and therefore, understandably, somewhat dictate the flow of the public conversation. As far as blogging, I'd advise that you don't write for the sake of eliciting comments. You'll get your feelings hurt more times than not. Do it because YOU have something to say. Trust me, for every person that comments there is anywhere from 10 to 1000 who read it and silently agree with you. Keep on with it. You'll be alright.

Hey Brother I hope you read this and respond, all these blogs seem to be a joke, everyone feels for the woman, what about the man, I am with my kids by my self( no help at all from the mother) I tried blogging about this before and could not get more than 10 responses. I am sick and tired where are the support groups for men, Bloggers will rather respond to bloggs such as does Beyonce where padded panties, its a joke, when the man steps up he gets crushed. Posted a blog recently and stil no responses, if I was a man not handling my business I would be a dog. Woman are treated so differntly when in the same place.

This case scenerio is where couples retreat comes into play. As a woman i feel that ,yes ,if you're in a committed relationship for quite some time (I'm thinking anything after being with someone 4 years and beyond), it is fair to say that it can get a bit boring especially if it's the same old routine day in and day out. It's only right for the couple themselves to determine what is needed to spice things up in all areas of their relationship. You can't just give up and walk away from the person just for the fact that you're "bored".. there are other ways around that without feeling so stagnant.

Bravo Mason! I just sumbled upon your article of "7 Things Couples Should Not Do". Bravo to you for stating, quite clearly, 6 annoying habits some couples fall into and one apparently hot button issue of parents being upset by interracial dating. In my experience, these are the same people who tell their children that being sterotyped, profiled, or discriminated against because of race, is wrong...except when dating THEIR child. I've never understood it and never will. My children may date whomever treats them as an equal in all things. When was the last time colour had anything to do with common decency and respect?

First, when you met her apparently you did not set the ground rules. For instance, as a black woman my children are grown. I struggled when they were young, took care of them, sacrifice a lot because I chose to be a mother. Did everything I was suppose to do to give them a stable home and security. Prepared them for their future. I struggle when they were young, I will not struggle when they are grown. Especially when the opportunities are far better than they were in my time. I loved the "7 things couples should not do", it was so very true. If my husband is wearing a red shirt and I even put on a color close to it, like coral, he is changing his shirt. Totally agree with the couples sitting next to each other, how do they talk to each other?

#6 means so much to me because that is what my sister and her husband did. She doesn't care that he is dating a white girl but my brother n law hates it and nags him to find a black girl. He even introduces him to some in hopes that he will dump his grilfriend and be with them. I always ask if you so "afro-centered" why did you move out in the stix where there is nobody black whatsoever in his neighborhood?

Im not exactly a talkative guy but I do love to talk about the things I love, not just everything. My woman on the other hand does it all, gossip, crack funnies, reitterate....i don't ever wanna hear the " you're not listening!" so I do enough to let her get it out since it must be soooo important to her that she keeps talkin. Am I supposed to help support her adult children and cater to her adult family members? I don't do that to mine. Must I be at everyone's beck and call?

Why does this crap show up after we get together? How come there is no longer room for my stuff? Why does she allow her folks to treat me with disrespect? Why does she get defensive when I stand up for myself?

How come they are allowed to use or take anything they want including my things? How come they aren't required to cook, clean and replace items they break like I do? Why is she quick to avoid confrontations with them but not with me?

When others ask how I feel about Brooklyn's Finest - this is always my answer. It's entertaining, yet it's not entertaining at all. Depending on one's mentality.

Mason's one of my favorite online editorialists/bloggers, and what drew me to him was his egalitarianism in his piece on women not having to wear wedding bands if their men don't, etc.

I may have been born a human being with female parts, but I am concerned with the equality and FREEDOM of humans born with male parts, as well.

This article is about fashion. Women are often pressured in this area. This article connects a product for which a person can pay and 'fitting in' to this person's self-respect and also to eir gender. Seriously?

I wish you had brought up (and I have similar responses about this and get annoyed with women over it) the way certain products can make people seem foppish and weak. But this is just MY opinion, and forcing it on others while connecting it rhetorically to their gender and sense of worthiness is not a perceptive, kind, noble act. Where's the global view and sense of justice in this?

You're a great writer, and I enjoy your ideas and perspectives, usually.
